1. Regeneration of silica gel pad after adsorption of water vapor

After the silica gel adsorbs water, it can be removed by thermal desorption. There are various heating methods, such as electric furnace, flue waste heat heating and hot air drying.

It is advisable to control the temperature of the additional heat to be 120--180°C, and for blue gel indicator, color-changing silica gel, and DL-type blue silica gel, it is preferable to control it at 100--120°C. The coarse-pored silica gel is less than 600 °C; the fine-pored silica gel is less than 200 °C; the blue glue indicator (or color-changing silica gel) is less than 120 °C; the silica-alumina gel is less than 350 °C. The water content of the regenerated silica gel is generally controlled below 2% and can be put into use again.

2. Regeneration of silica pad after adsorption of organic impurities

①Roasting method: For coarse-pored silica gel, it can be gradually heated to 500--600℃ in a roasting furnace, and it will take about 68 hours until the colloidal particles are white or yellowish-brown. For fine-pored silica, the calcination temperature should not exceed 200°C.
②Rinse method: The silica gel is adsorbed in saturated steam to be saturated, then soaked and rinsed in hot water, and can be combined with detergent to remove waste oil or other organic impurities, and then washed with clean water, dried and dehydrated.
③Solvent flushing method: According to the type of organic matter adsorbed by silica gel, select an appropriate solvent to dissolve the organic matter adsorbed in silica gel, and then heat silica gel to remove the solvent.

When drying and regenerating, attention should be paid to gradually increasing the temperature, so as not to cause the colloidal particles to burst due to severe drying and reduce the recovery rate. If the temperature is too high, the pore structure of silica gel will change, which will obviously reduce its adsorption effect and affect the use value. For blue gel indicator or color-changing silica gel, the temperature of desorption and regeneration should be lower than 120 °C, otherwise the color-developing effect will be lost due to the gradual oxidation of the color-developing agent.

Silica gel has strong hygroscopic ability, so it should be stored in a dry place, and there should be a shelf between the package and the ground. Packaging materials include steel drums, paper drums, cartons, plastic bottles, polyethylene plastic composite bags, flexible container bags, etc. During transportation, avoid rain, moisture and sun exposure.
